PhotoVision Expeditions
Out-of-town PhotoVision Expeditions give students a longer experience and take them to photogenic sites in Minnesota and elsewhere. Over the course of a weekend, each student can focus on the areas of growth in vision and technique that he or she most values, and enjoy the camaraderie and experience-sharing of a collegial, small group of learners.
“Seeking Hidden Visions: A North Shore Odyssey” August 20—22, 2010
Every photographer has the same basic tools—lenses and camera bodies—to take pictures. What sets apart the photographers we most admire is their unique, personal vision, expressed and shared through their images.
Come be part of a small group of students and develop your personal vision on this weekend PhotoVision Expedition. We’ll use the beautiful water, rocks, and flora of northern Minnesota and Lake Superior as backgrounds for building personal, expressive photography.
A variety of beautiful outdoor settings will give you opportunities to explore your creativity, and a series of artistic exercises will help you stretch those creative muscles! The small group will ensure personal attention to each student. We’ll mix the structured activities with plenty of opportunity for personal exploration and experimentation. There will be an informal print review Saturday evening, so students can bring and share their recent work with the group.
The class will convene Friday evening for an introductory session, and then we’ll be out with our cameras at sunrise Saturday. We’ll have a new classroom session on outdoor shooting and Photoshop tips on Saturday morning, as well as a great day of shooting. Sunday will see us at a different sunrise venue, and we’ll hit additional locations as we drive back towards the Twin Cities for a noon adjournment.
Tuition for the Expedition is $295 (not including transportation, food, and lodging.) Download the brochure here; register for the class by clicking here.
“Dramatic Visions: Growing in the Black Hills” - October 15—17, 2010
This will be a longer PhotoVision Expedition to South Dakota for inspiration and experimentation.
The wide open spaces and unique vistas of the Black Hills region of South Dakota offer the opportunity to try new techniques and to dig more deeply for a personal vision in your photography. The scenery of the region is both unique and challenging; for photographers ready to take the next step in the development of their own style, this Photo Vision Expedition is a must.
This Expedition will seek to inspire you through the wondrous, spiritual features of the area: the otherworldly landscape of the Badlands, the natural and man-made rock sculptures of the Hills and Devil’s Tower, and the range of emotions in the waters of the region. At the same time, these extraordinary locations will let each student in the small group try out creative technical techniques, including High Dynamic Range shooting, panoramas, and filters.
Tuition for the Expedition is $395 (not including transportation, food, and lodging.) Get more information or register here.
Custom Group Trips
In addition to the group expeditions I plan several times a year to photogenic locations, I offer personalized trips throughout the year. If you have a family with a mix of ages and interests, we can plan a weekend that lets all the family members see sights and take pictures of things they enjoy. If you are a group of friends who want to take a class to some favorite locations together, we can find dates to go with just your group. If you want an extended one-on-one workshop, we’ll go to the places you want to see. Flexibility is the key word here, and I will do my best to build a custom expedition just for you!
We can explore scenic areas around the upper Midwest, from the stunning coastlines of Lake Superior, to woods and woodlands of Minnesota and Wisconsin, or out to the awesome beauty of South Dakota’s Badlands. Pick your favorite location, or try a spot you’ve never seen before - either way we’ll combine the beauty and wonder of nature with personal photo skills development at a level designed just for you or your group.
